The Caribes were an indigenous tribe of the south of the Americas. When the Spaniards arrived to the New World, the Caribes were the most common population of the north of Colombia, the majority of Venezuela and some of the little Antillas.
The Caribes were seen as bellicose and savages who practiced cannibalism. In fact, the word "cannibal” comes from their name. The Caribbean sea is also named after the tribe. The word “Karíbar” is the Icelandic word for the tribe.
Karíba publishing house is a literary bridge between South America and Iceland. The founders of this publishing house noticed the lack of South American books in Iceland and considered that it was time to change that. So Karíba was born. Our goal is to introduce the wonders of the southern literature to the north; to create a direct link with the reality of South America as portrayed by its many authors.
